Artificial Intelligence

We do not use AI in any form in our books. Not in the writing. Not in the editing. It’s not that we have any ethical or moral (or whatever) argument against it; we’ve simply never seen any use for it.

Oh, maybe it could be a researching aid. So we’ve heard. We haven’t tried it and most likely never will. We do recognize it is likely to see improvement, over time. We do recognize it can be useful in some fields (coding, medicine, and so on). Indeed, our Jack Mack science fiction stories by Oliver Davis Pike are full of useful AI, integrated into a thriving human society (but they do drop in bits about problems and drawbacks, as well).

That’s in our books. How about outside them? That means artwork — or we should probably say ‘illustration’ — for both book covers and promotional material. We don’t believe we have used (knowingly!) AI-generated illustrations in our advertising. We are not dead set against it but we do keep in mind that it is taking a job from an artist. In that we created our own artwork, we’re not sure whether taking work from ourselves is altogether a bad thing!

The same with the covers. We did work in background AI elements (essentially, some textures) in a couple. By no means did we allow it to generate the cover itself. Chances are, we’ll not do that again. Anything a robot can do, we can do better — so far. Honestly, the more we see of AI illustration, the less we like it. And how it looks is the most important thing. We’d rather use a solid color cover, with just title and author, than bad ‘art.’

Anyway, you can certainly trust us not to be using any AI-generated content in out books. And we never will.
