The Tower Is Here

Officially, Stephen Brooke's new poetry collection, THE TOWER, is being released on the First but it is available in print and ebook versions pretty much everywhere right now. It may take a few more days to show up in every version at all the online booksellers (e.g. the Kindle version doesn't seem to be up yet at Amazon though the print edition is available).

Of course, it is ready for purchase at our own ARACHIS PRESS STORE at our printer's site, as print, EPUB, and PDF. If you prefer the EPUB version (not everyone uses Kindles, after all) it is widely available, including at Apple's iBookStore, if you prefer not to buy direct. Price is the same!

Coming in 2016

Here's a look ahead to the release of the next novel:

Remember that the new poetry collection from Stephen Brooke, THE TOWER, will be officially released in about a week. However, all the variants – print, pdf, and epub – are already up at our own store. It takes a while for them to show up at other vendors, online or otherwise. The idea is to have that occur at somewhere around the same time as the official release!

In the meantime, we are working on getting our remaining titles, the four books that make up the Donzalo's Destiny series, revised and into full distribution. The first of these, THE SONG OF THE SWORD, is ready to go and should be available everywhere before the end of the year. The other three will follow during 2016.

New and Old

This Saturday, August 1, is the official release date for Stephen Brooke's collection of poems for young readers, AWFUL ALVIN AND OTHER PECULIAR POEMS. The book is already available in both print and electronic form at our own site, and the ebook version can now be found at various retailers around the internet. Give it a few weeks yet for print copies to show up everywhere (yes, Amazon included).

We will be releasing the contemporary novel, SHAPER, on September 1. Expect to  see it rolled out over this month---it may be available on our own site by the middle of August. More on SHAPER later!

It should be followed by another poetry collection, THE TOWER. Tentative release date is October 15. That might be moved a couple weeks either way.

We will also continue to get more of our older titles into wider print distribution. The next of these will be the children's chapter book, THE CONTRARY FAIRY, followed by Stephen Brooke's debut novel, the YA book THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Expect both before the end of 2015. We can't guarantee more this year, but it might happen. All suitable titles will definitely be added before the end of next year.

Adult Material?

We were recently asked just how suitable our books might be for younger readers. Let me say right off that NONE of our titles contain graphic sex or violence. There is some violence in the adult novels, yes, much of it offstage. There are sexual situations and people make moral choices with which the reader might or might not take issue. There may be scatterings of strong language. They are novels and that is pretty much how novels are.

Of course, we do offer children's books, as well as one Young Adult title at this time (THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE), and these are completely 'G' rated. The other work? Maybe PG-13. Nothing more adult than that.

Notably, you are likely to find stronger and perhaps even offensive language in our poetry books. If you are a serious reader of poetry (or is that a reader of serious poetry?) you are not likely to be bothered.

Would we ever publish something more graphic? Something that actually needs a disclaimer? It is always possible but there is nothing in the pipeline at this moment. Though I am looking at some short-stories...

Upcoming for the Rest of 2015

August First marks the official release of Stephen Brooke's collection of poems for young readers, “Awful Alvin and Other Peculiar Poems,” but the book is now available in both print and digital form from our store. It will be appearing at retailers online and off over the next month or so.

We have more releases slated for the upcoming months. A new novel, “Shaper,” should come out on September 1, followed by another poetry collection, “The Tower,” in October. These release dates are tentative and could be pushed back up to a month. Both are for adult audiences

About Shaper:

Ted Carrol had found his 'last place.' A place where he could live quietly and build surfboards and where all the kids called him 'Shaper.'

His settled existence was not to last. Into Cully Beach swept Michelle and her daughter Charlie, two women escaping a dark past. How could Shaper have known he was going to fall in love?
Surf and suspense, smugglers and self-doubt, combine as Shaper must solve their mystery and that of his own future, in a tale both serious and funny, romantic yet real.

Shaper — a novel by Stephen Brooke

We are also working with author Branford Perry on a collection of short stories. Development may take a while and release will be next year, most likely.

Coast of Spears Video Trailer

We put together a  'slide-show' style video trailer for the new COAST OF SPEARS novel by Stephen Brooke. The novel, a 'fantasy adventure,' is available now in print and ebook at Arachis Press, rolling out elsewhere over the next couple months (which is why the 'official' release date is July 1).

A Mouse Goes Everywhere

We have just given final approval to the revision of Stephen Brooke's children's picture book, A MOUSE IS IN THE HOUSE, for distribution to all booksellers (Amazon, B&N, your local bookstore). If all goes well (hey, it does sometimes), it will be available everywhere in six to eight weeks.

* * *

Also, this coming week the finalized versions of the new adventure novel, COAST OF SPEARS,  will be sent to the printer. Although the 'official' release date is July 1, the ebook versions  should be available directly almost immediately. It will take longer for it to show up elsewhere --- the print edition may not make it to places like Amazon for a couple months, alas!

The Mouse Runs Free

In keeping with our intention to eventually get most of our books into wider distribution, a new edition of Stephen Brooke's children's picture book, A MOUSE IS IN THE HOUSE, has been sent off to our printer and should soon show up at book retailers everywhere, including Amazon. Watch for it online or order from your local bookstore!

And, of course, it remains available directly from us at the Arachis Press. Next comes the release of COAST OF SPEARS, and then we'll see about getting more revised books out.

Coast of Spears To Be Released

July 1 has been named as the official release date of Stephen Brooke's new fantasy adventure novel, COAST OF SPEARS. Look for it at book retailers or our own Arachis Press web site!

Donzalo and More

We have nearly completed the revisions of our entire catalog, and should have all the new editions  up by the end of this month. The intention was then to work up a combined edition of 'Donzalo's Destiny,' including a hardcover version. However, this plan has been abandoned, at least for now.

This, in part, is because the 740 page, 206,000 words, plus illustrations, was a bit much. Best to keep the saga in its four separate books and move on to new projects. But we will attempt to edit those four books and get them into wider distribution (i.e. at B&N, Amazon, etc) along side our  ebook editions.

Indeed, we hope to do this with most of our print books, in time. We have always been leery of this approach because it adds unnecessary expense as the books pass through the hands of a middleman. We would rather you, the readers, save the money as we keep our prices down.

The first book we will attempt to submit to distribution will be Stephen Brooke's third poetry collection, RETELLINGS. If it works out well, more titles will join it. This will require varying amounts of reformatting, both internal and to the covers, to meet the requirements of the vendors. And all new titles will be set up with this in mind.

Or we may just keep on as we have!

More Revised Versions

Since our last post, we have two more  revised versions of our books ready and on sale. These are the YA novel, THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, and the poetry collection, PIECES OF THE MOON (the first book we published, a decade ago).

We are in the process of getting the revised editions of our second poetry chapbook, DREAMWINDS, uploaded and available. Expect them in the next few days (though it takes longer to get the new ebook versions to all the retailers). Then we start on the first of the Donzalo novels, THE SONG OF THE SWORD. We hope to have all the Donzalo's Destiny titles revised and ready well before the end of this year, followed by the release of a print version (maybe a hardcover too?) containing all four books.

Also keep an eye out for the new fantasy adventure from Stephen Brooke, COAST OF SPEARS, which we hope to release this summer. But we all know about how plans are subject to change!

Contrary Fairy Updated

Beginning our task of updating, editing, and revising all our titles as necessary during this year, we have completed and uploaded new versions of Stephen Brooke's beginners' chapter book, THE CONTRARY FAIRY. Print and PDF versions are available now at our store.

We also chose to add an EPUB edition of the book. That is online at our shop at Lulu and should appear at other ebook sellers soon, including a Kindle version at Amazon.

Next up is the poetry chapbook, PIECES OF THE MOON (our very first title).

Expect changes at our website, as well. We made our pages wider and friendly for large screens over recent years, and then everyone started visiting the web on small hand-held devices! It is time to redesign with that in mind.
