Qala Novella

Qala the Pirate Queen appears in four of Stephen Brooke’s fantasy novels. She was introduced as a secondary character in ‘The Eyes of the Wind,’ in which she is still the leader of the pirates. ‘The Crocodile’s Son’ and ‘The Crocodile God’ chronicle her adventures in retirement as a member of the landed gentry (and the mother of a demigod). We turn to her childhood as a refugee in the decaying city of Tesra in ‘The City and the Sword,’ when she was known as Lellie. Later she took the name of the city as her own, becoming Tes the pirate captain before rising to the position of queen.

It is as Tes she appears in the novella ‘Storm Stone,’ to be released in about a month (June 28). This is a tale of her days as a young pirate on her way to the top. More info as we draw nearer the release date! All the books are available in print or as free ebooks at arachispress.com

Releases, Now and Later

April 21 2026 marks the release of Stephen Brooke's latest poetry collection, NIGHT RAINS. Here's the official blurb:

To linger in forbidden gardens,
  dream beneath the black rose tree,
to play the tunes for fairy dances
  through all night’s eternity,
I seek those distant ebon towers,
  stark beside a shadowed sea
where misted perfumes of the darkness
  rise in writhing ecstasy.

On May 18 we shall release the novella MISSION DELAYED, a Jack Mack science fiction story by Oliver Davis Pike, and on June 22, STORM STONE, a fantasy novella from Stephen Brooke. More on those as release dates approach.

Creative Commons

We have decided to move most of our material to Creative Commons licenses. As we were already allowing the free download of our ebooks, this will not have much actual effect. It just clears up the licensing a bit.

Stephen Brooke's poetry collection NIGHT RAINS remains on schedule for an April release and will be the first book with a CC notice in it. We also expect to have a new hardcover edition of Donzalo's Destiny available shortly, also under a CC license. Other books will have notices in them when we get to them.

Most of the sites and blogs connected to us already have Creative Commons notices up. 

Poetry 2026

We have chosen the poems (seventy-nine of them) and are working on the layout and formatting of the next Stephen Brooke poetry collection, to be titled NIGHT RAINS. An April release date is set. More information when we have some.

We have set the official release for Oliver Davis Pike's BLIND JUMP for October 31, 2025. Yes, Halloween. Blind Jump is the fourth of Pike's Jack Mack science fiction novels, following the adventures of 'Jumping' Jack McFee.

The Moon and the Sea Release

New Editions

New editions of Stephen Brooke's fantasy novels 'Stones in the Sea' and 'The City and the Sword' are now available for purchase. The changes were mostly proofreading related, tidying things up. In print or as free ebooks from Arachis Press (arachispress.com).

2025 Releases

Two new books are slotted for release in the first half of 2025. These are Stephen Brooke's latest poetry collection, THE MOON AND THE SEA, set for April 21, and Oliver Davis Pike's third Jack Mack science fiction novel, DIM DISTANT STARS, which will be released on June 1. As usual, in print and as free ebooks (epub and pdf).

Blog and Site

It may be noted that this blog is now incorporated (after a fashion) into arachispress.com, via a linked tab in the site navigation. If we'd known it was that simple, we would have done it quite some time ago, but we'd been exploring ways to embed a blog instead. This should word just fine and announcements can easily be found by visiting the Arachis Press site. Or just come here.

Combined Donzalo

We have decided to re-release the all-in-one edition of Stephen Brooke’s epic fantasy, “Donalo’s Destiny,” in paperback (no hard cover, at least for now). It was withdrawn from publication when we released newly edited and typeset versions of the four constituent novels (more or less novels though one can see DD as one long novels), “The Song of the Sword,” “The Shadow of Asak,” “The Sign of the Arrow,” and “The Hand of Sorcerer.” Plans are to make the book available before the end of the year.

However, the separate volumes remain available, both in print and as free ebooks, and will continue so, at Arachis Press (arachispress.com).

Countdown to Counting Words

We have decided not to hold Stephen Brooke's new poetry collection, 'Counting Words,' until next year, as originally intended. The release date now (and this is fairly solid) is October 25. More news, cover reveal, and so on to come in a bit (once 'The City and the Sword' is out). 'Counting Words' is a collection of poems with an emphasis on language and its uses, both serious and for play.
