In the Works

New books are coming. Really! Our publishing schedule had to be put on hold for a while, due to other demands on our time and resources, but we do hope to have two new titles available soon.

The first of these is a new direction for us: an art book. It will be a retrospective of the life work of painter K. Page Brooke. Photography is going on right now and we should have the final product assembled soon. The book will be made available in print – full color, of course – but also we will probably offer it as a PDF. If the logistics can be worked out, possibly that latter version will be a free download.

The second will be a children’s picture book, titled ‘Awful Alvin.’ It is likely that the illustrations will be black and white pen drawings (text and artwork both by Stephen Brooke), but color remains a possibility. We’ll have to see how that goes.

Will either be available before the end of the year? Maybe not, but expect them soon after. There will be more to follow in 2013, naturally!

Books at Face Book

We are adding official pages for each of our titles at Face Book, so they may be 'liked' by those who, well, like them. The first of these is for the first of our books, Pieces of the Moon. The page is here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pieces-of-the-Moon/362448023833051

More will be added, time and ambition allowing.

UPDATE, NOVEMBER: We have abandoned FaceBook and are NOT going back. What a waste of time that place is!

Site Down

It would seem that the Arachis Press site is down...or is it? Our domain is registered with GoDaddy, which has apparently succumbed to some sort of attack, but the actual site is hosted at Yahoo, as part of the Insolent Lad site, and is still accessible at http://insolentlad.com. Just follow the link on the IL main page.

We hope this is fixed quickly!

Logo

I'm at a point where I want to make a more-or-less permanent decision on the logo for Arachis Press. Do I stick with my older concept I worked up a couple years ago (with or without added peanut graphic):

Or do I go with this more more unique choice:

I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two...and I like them both. The older one might come off as classy to some but it's also just a tad cheesy, don't you think? The newer design certainly makes for a clean and even forceful 'AP' but I'm not entirely enamored of the font otherwise.

Well, I suppose I'll decide soon, as I'm getting the web site revamped and expanded (at last) and would want to use one or the other. It would appear in the next book too, but then I already have five books out there with the older logo. That's probably the strongest argument for keeping it.

addendum, July 29: having given this some time for consideration (starting a couple months before posting it), I've decided to stick with the old logo.  So that's the Arachis Press 'brand' for the foreseeable future.

The Well-Dressed Mouse

The cover art from 'A MOUSE IS IN THE HOUSE' by Stephen Brooke is available on tees (and other stuff) from the Insolent Lad Emporium. Wouldn't your kid look cute in this? For that matter, wouldn't YOU?

The book, of course, remains on sale at our Arachis Press Spotlight store.

The Fairy Has Landed

Arachis Press is proud to announce the official release of ‘The Contrary Fairy,’ a magical story from author and illustrator Stephen Brooke.

The sprite Marjoram is called a contrary fairy when she tries to keep her carefree friends from getting into trouble. Will they learn to listen to her? ‘Fairy’ follows the little folk on a day of adventures and lessons learned.

A beginner’s chapter book, ‘The Contrary Fairy’ runs to about 4000 words, spread over 11 chapters and forty pages, with 18 black and white illustrations.

‘Fairy’ is available, as are all Stephen’s titles, through The Arachis Press (http://arachispress.com) and our printer (http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/arachispress). Retail price for the paperback is 6.99; the PDF runs 1.99.

We have eschewed an EPUB version for this book as it is not well suited to products for small children.

The Contrary Fairy

Stephen Brooke's new beginner's chapter book, 'The Contrary Fairy,' is set for official release on May First. This will be the first of a projected series of magical books for young readers from the Arachis Press.

Illustrations are by the author.

We have several exciting (to us, anyway!) projects on the way including more illustrated children's books and a collection of short stories set in Florida from Branford Perry.
